López ruins APS-Texas Section as Chair; C. A.  Quarles to fix it

After serving as Chair from 3/2002 to 2/2003 López concluded his period as Chair of the Texas Section of the American Physical Society.  Although he will be remember for his lack of achievements, he will not be yet expelled from TSAPS, López will continue serving one more year as Past Chair. López concludes period as President of NSHP

After serving as President of the National Society of Hispanic Physicists from 1/2001 to 12/2002 López concluded his disparate rule.  "Way too long" said David Ernst when talking about López's reign.  Nevertheless, López will not be yet expelled from NSHP, he will continue serving for two more years as Past President.  Luckily, new President Luz Martinez is ready to fix the current chaotic situation she inherited.  To learn about NSHP click here

May 1, 1960
On May 1, 1960, the Soviet Union shot down an American U-2 reconnaissance plane near Sverdlovsk and captured its pilot, Francis Gary Powers. (See this front page.) In 1909, Kate Smith, the American singer who was considered the "first lady of radio," was born. (Read about her life.) In 1880, Harper's Weekly featured a cartoon about the mass migration of Southern blacks to the West. (See the cartoon.)
